First Look at Russell Crowe in Universal's Robin Hood

USA Today has published the first photo of Russell Crowe in director Ridley Scott's Robin Hood. Opening in theaters on May 14, 2010, the Universal action-drama co-stars Cate Blanchett, Vanessa Redgrave, Mark Strong, Scott Grimes, Kevin Durand, Alan Doyle, Oscar Isaacs, Lea Seydoux and William Hurt.

Russell Crowe plays Robin of Loxley in an origin story of Robin Hood that hews close to historical facts of the period. Abandoned as a child, he finds community with the common people of Nottingham. Robin's abandonment and trust issues hamper his ability to fall in love. He meets his match in Marian (Cate Blanchett), a strong, independent woman.

Thoughts:
Looks pretty damn awesome for a movie based on Robin Hood. He kind of looks like Maximus from Gladiator which was also directed by Ridley Scott. Its nice to see Scott taking a more serious route with this story. I'm not really a Robin Hood fan and haven't really checked out the previous incarnations of the English folklore, but I am excited about this film. Hopefully director Ridley Scott gives us a more gritty and mature telling of Robin Hood.

Ridley scott has gone down hill over the past years. Kingdom of heaven was not as good as i thought it would be... but i guess i can blame that on the screenplay and not so much on the directing. I hope this does well...

side commet..
Even though Legend was your typical fantasy story i really think Ridley scott made that film look so amazing, i just hope he'll do us at least that one thing for this Robin Hood film.

I wouldn't say downhill, but his recent films haven't been those special films that we have come to expect from him. I haven't seen Legend, but I did hear good things about it. I'm sure Scott wont screw up Robin Hood too much. For the first time in my whole life, I'm actually excited about a Robin Hood movie simply because this pic looked awesome.
