Thoughts:
Looks like it was a slow week this week which isn't much of a surprise considering Christmas is next week. Yes Man debuted to a low $18 million which is much smaller than what I has expected. I was expecting the Jim Carrey hit to gross $20 million at the least, but I guess it isn't much worse than his drama film The Majestic which debuted much lower. I saw the film yesterday night and am currently working on a review which should go up sometime this week. Will Smith's new film Seven Pounds grossed a pretty lukewarm $16 million making it one of Smith's lowest box office opening. The Tale of Despereaux also opened to a low number of $10 million. I was expecting this animated flick to open pretty big considering the number of theaters that carried it, but it flopped pretty bad. The Day the Earth Stood Still dropped pretty hard to the 4th spot. It looks like those negative reviews did their jobs. This certainly hasn't been a good year for good old Fox. Slumdog Millionaire made the top ten and grossed an additional $3 million. It opened in more theaters this week which resulted in more chances for people to go see it. The film is highly rated and has already been nominated many times. I'm still trying to make some time to watch this film.
